Jubilee Brass 2008
The Tasmanian Bands League and its Music Advisory Board are pleased to announce that a state brass band will be formed this year with a great program of rehearsals, workshops and concerts. We are again fortunate in securing the conducting skills of Howard Taylor, Director of Australian champion band, Brisbane Excelsior. BBb tuba player Dean Morley, previously with the world famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band and now with Brisbane Excelsior Band, will be special guest soloist as well as conducting workshops and offering lessons.
The schedule of events is as follows:
1. First rehearsal - reading of suggested repertoire, allocation of parts, administrative arrangements, discussion etc.

2. Rehearsals and Workshops with Howard Taylor, Dean Morley
Friday 8 August, 8.00 – 10.00pm
Saturday 9 August, 9.30am – 6.00pm
Sunday 10 August, 9.30am – 2.00pm
Host – Glenorchy City Concert Brass
3. Rehearsals and Concerts
Friday 22 August, 8.00 – 10.00pm – Rehearsal in Launceston
Saturday 23 August, 9.30 – 11.30am – Rehearsal
Saturday 23 August, 2.30pm – Concert in Launceston
Saturday 23 August, 7.30pm – Concert in Devonport at the opening of the 80th Devonport Eisteddfod
Sunday 24 August, 2.00pm – Concert in Hobart
The TBL will assist players with petrol costs.
Brass and percussion players from bands registered with the TBL are invited to apply for membership. Interested players should complete the form provided and send it to Dean Hunt by Monday 9 June. Please use email where possible. Dean will be at the Solo and Ensemble weekend on 31 May and 1 June if you wish to deliver your application personally, or send it along with a participating band member.
